We represent individuals who were prescribed Yasmin/Yaz and now suffer from deep vein thrombosis (blood clots), pulmonary embolism or strokes. Yasmin/Yaz has also been associated with heart attacks and death. These lawsuits allege that the prescription medication was negligently manufactured and that the manufacturer, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceutical, failed to warn of its potential dangers.
These drugs are oral contraceptives used to prevent pregnancy, treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and also certain types of acne. Yasmin and Yaz are what is known as combination oral contraceptives. This means that they contain both Estrogen and Progestin Hormones to prevent pregnancy. The difference between these two drugs, Yasmin and Yaz, is the amount of Estrogen. Yasmin contains a higher dosage while Yaz contains a lower dosage. Current studies indicate that taking of these drugs may increase potassium levels in certain individuals. These elevated potassium levels may disrupt heart rhythms and slow the flow of blood resulting in the formation of clots. These clots can also lead to stroke or pulmonary embolism.
Lawyers pursuing these claims believe that Bayer failed to warn women and their doctors of the risk of injury associated with these drugs. Some medical professionals and societies suggest that individuals should stop using Yasmin/Yaz and use other forms of birth control due to a number of reported cases of thrombosis and death.
